Two Vocabulary Words: Tropical, Humid----11/6

Louisiana is a very humid state. This means that there is a lot of moisture in the air. Louisiana is known for being very humid because when it is hot the air is very wet and makes it miserable to run or do activities of any sort in. In the summer the air is very humid and hard to do activities in.
The tropics is an area near the equator. The weather in the tropics is very tropical.  This mans that the weather is hot and steamy. Tropical weather is nice with activities because if you have tropical wether you are near cool water.

LOTF Response 11/6

In Lord of The Flies I find the symbolism very interesting. Throughout the book he uses very subtle yet very good symbolism throughout the book. The word choice in this book pulls you as if you are apart of the book. This is interesting to me because he makes his gruesome scenes very gruesome but in other scenes that he is trying to get his point across he does so but using the right word choice to where it causes you to stop and think for a second about what is happening.
I believe this is important throughout the book so far because this is one of the reasons this book has been such a success and must read book for young adult readers. This book has a special feeling when reading it like no other. This is in part to the word choice and symbolism. I believe this aspect is important in all books but Lord Of The Flies truly executes this.

Human Nature

Human  Nature is the nature in which humans interact with one another. I believes that humans are fundamentally good but different situations and variables may turn them to be something other than fundamentally good. I think we are set as a mold as first then everyone is put in different situations leading us to act and be different.
I believe in this way because everyone is born an innocent child. These innocent children are put into awful situation and some have really good situations. Everyone responds differently to the position they are being put into. Some people are raised to be in a certain mold such as religion or race and they believe that they have to fit into this mold and it changed their true nature.

What is Trust?

Trust is very important but nobody has a true understanding of what trust is. Everyone has different definitions of trust and how they apply it to their daily lives. Trust is important because without it we would not have the bonds or relationships we have in our daily lives. Trust is something that can easily be broken or gained by different things that occur.
My definition of trust is being able to rely on someone to do what they have said will be done. This is my definition, and everyone has their own. Being able to trust someone is very important because it bonds relationships. Trust is knowing that someone always has your back and is always there for you no matter what happens in the process. Trust is great.

LOTF Response

The world, that understandable and lawful world, was slipping away.  Once there was this and that; and now--and the ship had gone. [... Jack refusing to give Piggy the floor when he has the conch...]
"The rules!" shouted Ralph.  "You're breaking the rules!"
"Who cares?"
Ralph summoned his wits.
"Because the rules are the only thing we've got!"
But Jack was shouting against him.
"Bollocks to the rules!  We're strong--we hunt!  If there's a beast, we'll hunt it down!  We'll close in and beat and beat and beat--!" (91)

I chose this passage because I feel that this incorporates the entire theme. This supports every them and mood of the story.  It talks about how the lawful world is slipping away and their ship of rescue has left. This also shows two very important characters and who they truly are as the characters.
This is an important section because it shows the character traits if two very important characters and shows the conflict and overall theme that the entirety of the book shows. It shows that Ralph is trying t keep everything together and slow things down and Jack only wanted to go full speed and hunt. It shows the rivalry and massive difference in two personalities and how they clash together in a world amongst utter chaos.

Symbolism

There was once a father who had lost his dog. After losing his dog he went into a downward spiral. He could not control anything ad felt as if he was enclosed in a caged room. He found a picture of his dog and threw it away and burned it. The next day he received a letter in the mail addressed to him but from a tree. Inside the letter was the picture of his dog untouched. He cannot believe his eyes and burns it again. He starts to to hear barking noises in his house and believes he is going crazy. The barking  noises continue. He learns to live with these barking noises and lives a better life of understanding.

Caged Room: Reality
Picture of his Dog: memories
Barking noises: constant reminder of realization that he has lost his dog

The Idea of the story is he learns to live without his dog and learns to concur and overcome his troubles.

LOTF Thesis

My thesis is; Golding uses Biblical symbolism to further define the plot for Lord of The Flies. I chose this quote from LOTF to exemplify my thesis. "When he was secure in the middle he was in a little cabin screened off from the open space by a few leaves. He squatted down, parted the leaves, and looked out into the clearing. "
I chose this quote because it is one of my personal favorite quotes in the book. I feel that this contributes to my thesis because amid all the chaos Simon finds sanctuary in a little space that he has found.  Amidst all of the chaos he is facing he finds a safe place to relax and reflect. I feel that this is heaven because amongst all the chaos in the real world heaven is the safe, eternal place.

Free Post Q2 Week 6

I have had many ups and downs as a freshman. I believe that overcoming obstacles is very important and a way to build your character.  This year has not been the best year for me so far but I am working to get there. Overcoming the adversity of family members dying, family members' surgeries,  and keeping everything together is very hard. Having a strong relationship with a friend helps a lot.
During this school year I have dealt with a lot of adversity and attempted to overcome. As f late it almost feels impossible to overcome. One of my friends has helped me with dealing with this.  Having a strong relationship with someone to turn to is very important with things like this. As a freshman nobody truly understands what is going on. Adults had it differently and do not know what it is like as a freshman. It is very frustrating. All in all overcoming adversity and having friends to turn to is very imprint and I'm not sure what I would do without them.

Why is music important?

Music is important to me because it can change your everything and how you carry yourself. Music is important to me because it gives you that ability To change your mood and affect the way people act or feel. Music can get you through hard times and make the good times even better. The way the speed of the music is played and the words that give each song its importance.
Listening to music that is fast paced and motivating can help people go through hard times and the good times. Music is also a cultural and a community that you are apart of and how much it is able o bring people together. Music can turn a group of people who are against each other to eliminate a division and make one.

Human Nature

Human nature is important to everyone because it makes people who they are. It makes everyone unique in their own way. Without human nature the world would be ruled by sadness and lack of personality or anything outside of the normal realm of the popular or mainstream way of doing things.Without human nature there wouldn't be any discovery.
I believe these things throughout personal experiences. If everyone was the same daily things wouldn't be right. If everyone had the same opinion and didn't have their own nature nothing would feel right. This affects daily life such as: sports, religion, eating, culture and just basics ways of life that would not be the same without your own personal nature.

Final Exorcist Response

The mood towards the end of the book is very different from the beginning. Every page is like walking around an eery corner. At first everything is just curiosity and wondering what happens next. Every detail he gives towards the end will make you cringe up.  Some of the details will make you stop wanting to read but the background information will make you want to continue.
The author has done of a good job of conveying a possible theme throughout the book. The theme is how do we deal with evil? How does one  learn to cope with all the bad while trying to focus on the good. The answer is there is no way to completely deal with evil but also not to succumb to all the evil. The issues in this story all magnify these themes in my opinion.

Fall Break

During Fall Break I played soccer and visited my family. My family came in from the Canary Islands. My Uncle is really good at speaking Spanish. We watched the World Cup Qualifying games together. My aunt makes a really good casserole that we all eat around the camp fire and sing the camp fire song. The camp fire song is sung lie this, "Let us all gather around the campfire and sing the camp fire song. C-A-M-P F-I-RE song." This Verse is repeated 7 times.
After visiting my family I hangout with my friends during the weekend. I got to see one of my good friends who had to wrongfully go to another school. It was very cool and fun to see him again. We stayed up and hardcore gamed all night long. We woke up and ate snails that were left. Overall fall break was very fun.

Da-Duh

This story was very compelling and the way that the author  confused me so much that it kept me hooked is great. There was not a time throughout the story where I was uninterested at any given time. I also thought that the word choice was not great but the detail that was given throughout made up for it.
Throughout the entire story the characters change throughout which is nice because you have to pay attention. Very subtle things are said that turn the whole story but they are very small yet vivid detail. A theme that was throughout this short story was the idea that everything good comes with something bad. I felt that it was a very personable story and it told a story.

100 Word Story

Once upon a time there was a little boy named Kcabdeef, who wondered the forests of Blogger.com. He then came across one of his rivals, Smrichtenzcuff, who was a ravaged young boy. The two were rivals because they would not agree on their favorite schnitzel. Smrichtenzcuff loved the watermelon schnitzel but Kcabdeef loved the blue cherry schnitzel. Kcabdeef raided all of the factories that made the watermelon schnitzels. This made Smrichtenzcuff rage. Smrichtenzcuff decided to raid Kcabdeef's factories full of the blue cherry schnitzels.  They both tried new schnitzels but neither like their new flavors, they both missed their old schnitzels. They agreed to try to reinvent their old schnitzels. They made a much bigger,  tastier schnitzel and they were best friends.

Dialogue

Marleau and Lance have lost their dog. They find out that it was one of them who had left the gate open. They hear barking in the distance and start their search. They will soon find out it wasn't either of them. Based on a true story.

Marleau: "Lance, You left the gate open!"

Lance: " I thought you left the gate open?!"

Marleau: "Do you hear that?"

Lance: "Hear wha-...it is a dog barking!"

Marleau: "Let's go look!"

Lance: "Get the keys."

Marleau: "Is that him?"

Lance: "Yes it is! Georgie!"

Marleau: "The Lowe's people must have left the gate open!"

Reading Response To Personal Narrative

I think that there are definitely some things that I need to work on when it comes to my personal narrative. One of which, being my organization. I think that there are parts of the story that are in vivid detail I just haven't applied them the correct way. My next issue is relevancy. I have short vivid details here and there but they are not completely relevant to the story. I need to work on the way the climax is presented. I have a couple of parts throughout the narrative that could be the climax but it is not given enough detail.
There are also some things that I have done particularly well. I think that I have a very good introductory that hooks people into reading more. I also think that when it comes to organization I am good except for a couple of times. This story is also very personal to mean it was easy to be passionate about and provide the thoughts I had.

Current Response To Exorcist

In this book the author has done a great job keeping me hooked. He uses word choice that keeps you interested and makes it apparent he's not twelve. He also has the right amount of plot twists. I do not read very many thrillers because there are too many twists throughout and the book is too much too concentrate. He keeps the story interesting and gives you that suspenseful feeling about what happens next. He keeps a very good balance of being able to understand but also keeps you thinking.
I anm not  a hue fan of thrillers but something I look for in a good book is literary devices. He uses some symbolism but it is hard to pick up on. He subtly uses foreshadowing at the beginning that later makes sense and then you have that moment where everything clicks for a second. He has a done a very good job ad has made this an interesting read for me to continue.

Dear 14 Year Old

Dear 14 Year Old,

Do not let other people's opinion matter. What they say does not matter. It is what you think and feel about yourself that truly matters. Worry about the people that will actually worry about you. Do not waste your time on people that do not care about you. Be yourself and keep your morales. Once you are stripped down something you will always have is your pride and dignity.
Throughout everything that happens put everything into perspective. Think about if certain, stupid things happen if it is worth your time and energy. Drama is not worth your time or anything. Stay focused on school, family, friends, and extracurricular activities. Worry about the things that will worry back. Put things into the perspective of the whole world. Is an illness or disease going to matter more than someone starting something for attention? Yes. Be yourself and be careful.

Sincerely, a 15 Year Old

Summer Experience

A fun summer experience that I had was going to Bay St. Louis, MS with my friends and the EHS soccer team. It was a chance to prove that even being one of the youngest I can still compete at high level. Being able to compete at that high intensity and fighting for every ball with people older is a great experience that I will never forget.
During the camp we played a number of scrimmages vs people.  I switched every other time between varsity and junior varsity. Playing on both early helped me with a learning experience because at higher levels you must think constantly. I liked playing with all the older Episcopal kids because I was a chance to prove myself to them and to the coaches. I will hopefully play alongside them this year. I look forward to all future camps and  I would definitely say this was one of the highlights of my summer.

Soccer (Free Post)

I have been playing soccer since I was 4 and I haven't stopped playing since. I love the gamed everything about it. I have played for Rec. teams, EHS, and most importantly BRSC. Playing soccer and waking up for those awfully scheduled morning games, is something I want to continue for a long time.
The way soccer makes me feel is crazy. That feeling of sprinting to get a ball and making sure whoever you're playing gets embarrassed and has their pride torn into two. That feeling of taunting someone until they call the ref over and start crying. Playing for your team an your Club name is a very important reason I feel this way about soccer. Playing for the name on the front is far better than playing for the name on your back. Being able to play the game is something I'm grateful for an looking forward to in the future.

Great Gatsby Response

The Great Gatsby is a book and a story about betrayal and loyalty. Some times the characters had betrayed each other and they are sometimes loyal. The way the story is told is important because the tone of the story is very sneaky. This is important because the story wouldn't be the same without the tempo of this book.
The way that Fitzgerald tells the story and keeps the book interesting and it always keeps yo wondering when the next action is about to occur. I think this is one of the reasons that this book has been popular for the amount of years that this book has been out. It gives an insight to the things that most people can be ignorant too. This was one of the most interesting and most of all, fun books to read. I enjoy this book and I'd strongly recommend it.

9/11 Response

I read an article by scholastic about the 9/11 attacks. In the article is says that the terrorists hijacked two different planes and then flew into the Twin Towers in New York. Th third plane hit the pentagon and the fourth hit Arlington, Virginia. Around 3,000 people were killed because of these attacks. 19 terrorists had hijacked the four planes on their intended trip to mayhem.  All of the men work for Al Qaeda, a terrorist organization in the Middle East.
The events that happened on this day are truly horrific. The way that they intended to destroy so many lives is heartless. 19 soul-less man took the lives of more than 3,000 people and the pride of America and all families involved. America grieved for a while but we came back stronger asa community. Taking military action against them and making what happened just again.  We wanted to kill whoever was responsible for these horrible actions and what they caused our country to feel. America came back sponge than ever ad has responded to every difficult situation because we came together.

The Exorcist Response

The book I am reading is The Exorcist. The reason I chose to start reading this book was because I wanted to test if I could be scared of a book. The author,  William Blatty, has the best word choice I have ever read in a book. The book is about a 12 yearly named Regan who gets possessed.
He hooks you into reading and wanting to continue reading. This is a fairly important factor to me because reading is not my favorite thing yet, he still hooks me into reading more and more. The word choices very important as well, it adds a creepy suspense that should be in a thriller novel. There is always that guy feeling that will leave you hanging fora second and then make you wonder. It is a physiological scary that makes you think. The voice is very apparent throughout the novel. It adds that extra details that make you imagine everything going on in your head.

Maze Runner Response by Ethan Webb

One of the three books I read for summer reading is the Maze Runner by James Dahsner.  This is a great book because you get lost inside the book. The way James Dashner describes the scenery and the way he describes all of what is happening in the book is amazing. Dashner puts the picture in perfectly in your head while your reading. He is very descriptive with all of what he says throughout the book. As a reader, I look for interesting and hooking writing. Dashner's writing hooks you straight into the beginning of a great overall book. Instead of feeling like you are just watching, this book makes you feel as if you are an unnamed character.
Thomas, who is the main character of this book, comes up through an elevator in the ground and he only has his name to remember. He soon realizes that there are many exactly like him. Everyone is fairly weary of Thomas because he is the new guy and has to learn about his fellow Glade members. I related to this beginning part of the book because it felt a lot like being new here at Episcopal. When starting new you feel like you are alone but soon realize a bunch of other people are just like you. I could also relate because being a Freshman in high school is very different from being in eighth grade. Thomas had to learn his way among the maze and the glade just like the freshman must find their way among a giant maze...being high school.
