Strengths and Challenges

I will first start off with my strengths and what I feel that I was able to improve on and strengthen this year. I felt that throughout the year I had a good voice when writing. I think that I was able to convey what I was saying in a good writer's voice. I felt that I was also able to get the ideas I needed and attempt to write them down without any organization. I felt that organization was a challenge for me this year but by doing essays and consistently writing blog posts my organization has become somewhat better.
This class overall has helped me strengthen what I felt comfortable with but also helped me with things that I had struggled with. By writing papers and blogs every week I have had more opportunities to practice and work on these skills every week which has been extremely helpful.

Hits and Misses

For the hits and misses I will start with a hit. I felt that eve though I struggled with the DBQ essay I still did well on it. I have never done well on a DBQ paper because I was not really sure how to put and tie all the information together. I think that this DBQ process has helped me become a better and more intricate stay writer. I think that the process helped me grow and gave me an understanding of how to complete a thorough DBQ essay. I also think my persona narrative was a hit but It was also a miss. I am not too sure why I did so poorly on my narrative paper. I think it was because I lacked and had forgotten actual writing concepts and wrote freely.
I think that I did have misses but all of my misses effected me positively. I have grown from these misses and it has given me more ability as a writer and as a better reader. I did not do well on my narrative because I had not learned the great skills that had yet to come in this class. After learning these skills and applying them to my other papers, I feel that I take fewer L's and enjoy writing more.

Purple Hibiscus Response

Purple Hibiscus so far has been very interesting to read. It is interesting to see how a family acts when it has different culture and beliefs. You would think before reading this book that there is a stereotypical family life envisioned. By reading this book it gives further insight on how a family could act and could think. They are very few books that give a view of what it is like to live in an abusive family. Kambili shows how she is still loyal to Papa even though her and her family have been abused. She still listens to Papa and wants to follow his every intersection. In fact, she is very wary of Papa Nnukwu being at Aunty's House while she is there.
Throughout this book there has been many ups and downs. I am pleasantly surprised that I have enjoyed reading this book. It can be vey hard to read because of the abuse and the emotional discomfort that the family has come upon. Overall I am looking forward to reading this book and seeing the ending.

What sports team has disappointed you?

The prompt I chose for this week's blog post is "What sports team has disappointed you?" Recently my favorite soccer team, Manchester City, was eliminated from the Champions League. They had dominated the Premier League all year long. In the first leg of the Champions League they got blown out by Salah and Liverpool. The score was 3-0. I watched this game and could honestly not comprehend what was occurring. I expected Manchester City to win by 3, not lose by 3. They also lost the Manchester Derby which was extremely disappointing. The Manchester Derby is Manchester United and Manchester City play each other. In the second leg of the champions League which is when Liverpool and Manchester City play again. The aggregate score was 3-0 going into the game. Manchester City needed a 3 or more goal differential to advance into the semifinals. Of course they scored first giving me a lovely layer of false hope. They lost to the hands of Salah and Liverpool. They did not advance.
Recently my team has been extremely disastrous. Last year they were one of the worst teams and it was very hard to cheer for them. recently it has been extremely difficult because they did not advance in the most important games of the year. I have learned not to set my hopes too high because I would probably will be underwhelmed. As any sad fan would say, There is always next year.

Political Post

In this article it explains the chemical attacks in Syria that has reportedly killed over 40 people and injured more. It explains what President Trump says about the recent attacks and what actions he would take. It is reported that President Trump has threatened Syria with an airstrike amongst the actions. President Trump believes that the Syrian Government is involved. In this article it is also questioned what other countries were involved or if any other countries were involved.
I chose this article from Fox because I believe they are the least biased and most reliable news source. I have always been intrigued with the military and government and how they respond to these attacks. I also chose this article because I agree with Mr. Trump's planned actions and I feel that military action is necessary when it comes to Syria which is an ongoing issue. I believe that the loss of innocent lives is tragic especially when your own government is performing the attacks. I think that the planned actions Trump has taken will be good for the future. I think these actions will be great but could also have backlash for our country because It could start political discourse amongst other countries but it would also resolve an ongoing issue.

Purple Hibiscus

Purple Hibiscus is a book that shows the cultural society and social issues amongst the people. The reason that I believe this is because the book commonly gives small details that show abuse and poverty and how people are commonly treated amongst communities.Purple Hibiscus is a book that shows symbolism and social issues in an intriguing way. Papa who is seemingly perfect to the community has major family issues. He abuses his wife, kids and in some cases kids to be. Many do not realize this but there is nothing to be done because he is the glue in their community.
Purple Hibiscus has shown that many things must be forgotten or things that you would not expect happen very commonly where they live. When Papa beat his wife and future child the children acted like it was just another one of those days and it was normal for beatings to happen. Throughout this book the cultural differences and mindsets amongst the different groups are very different from what you would see anywhere else. I am excited to see how things like poverty and abuse continue to layout through this novel.

Dogs

Dogs are human's best friends. Dogs have been with mankind since the beginning of time. Dogs have always been there for humans and humans have always been there for dogs. The importance of dogs is very overlooked. Dogs relax many people and that is why they are the most common therapy animal. They use a sense of warmth and playfulness to combine for great therapy animals. This is important because many people need dogs for their every day lives. Another important use of dogs are for security purposes. Such as, K9 units or just watching backyards.
Dogs are single handedly the best animals in the world due to their versatility in usage. They can be used in almost any situation to help others. I have two black labs and they may not be K9 units or the most useful watch dogs but they are very underrated when it comes to other things. Overall dogs are very underrated when it comes to worldly things.

Umbrella

In the song "Umbrella" by Rihanna feat. Jay-Z, the artist use an anaphora to get her point across that she will always be there for her fired and they will protect each other like an umbrella which brings me to my next point. Metaphors are used in this song quite a bit. The rain is all the problems in the world that her friend is being faced with. The umbrella that Rihanna refers to is the protection that Rihanna has for her friend. I feel that these metaphors help make the song more personable and understandable. Rihanna consistently uses words that mean lasting or forever throughout her song. She does so to let her friend that no matter how bad the rain (all problems) is that Rihanna will always have her back.
In the song "Umbrella" by Rihanna feat. Jay-Z, the artists uses anaphoras and metaphors to get her point across and to give an example that isn't real but is related to the hardships her friend is facing. I feel that the usage of these two devices were crucial in the song. The metaphor of rain to problems was consistently used in almost every stanza. This emphasizes the rain and umbrella to the rest world problems and her relationship with whomever she is talking to.

shootings

oh so
crazy
oh so
dumb
looking for the
answer
that may never
exist
while everyone is clenching their
fists
yet, they are all being
dismissed
no answer is found.
until the day.

missed

I used end rhyme, enjambment and one caesura in my poem.

Jamar Melton

I felt that Jamar's project was the one that had the greatest affect on me. It was about the difference between Hurricane Harvey and the Great Flood of 2016 vs. Katrina. The difference in support of these two natural disasters was immense. Jamar explained that one way this was so different was because of the Cajun Army. The Cajun Army was a organization that helped other states in the US in need. They did so by having call systems and emergency systems that notified them when someone needed to be helped or rescued. Jamar made this very apparent by showing us the difference in a call from Katrina vs. a call during Harvey or the Flood.
I feel that this presentation impacted me the most was because it hit close to home. During Harvey, many of my family members had to be evacuated and my birth town was hit very hard from the flood. During the massive flood that had hit Baton Rouge many friends and family had been impacted. I can remember watching the families cry as we rip their houses apart and the screams from the mothers when they see what their household now is. Jamar's presentation was empowering because it shows what a community can do when everyone works together.

Free Post EHS Soccer Season

Episcopal soccer has just ended and club soccer has just started. These two styles and the rosters of the team are very different. The Episcopal Knights 2017-2018 program has been one that has changed my life. Before playing high school soccer, I had no idea what dedication meant. My coaches and the players on my team were tremendous in whatever they did. We bonded as a group and were a family. One that was serious when we needed to be serious but also had laughs along the way.
As most freshman have never played high school sports, it is very different but in the same sense makes you much better. By playing for your school instead of a club gives a whole new insight on what it means to represent something or someone. When wearing a Knights jersey you never feel so proud. When playing any sport for Episcopal it isn't just playing for your team. You play for the entire school and everyone who contributes to that school. It is not about the game itself, it is about how you represent what is on the front of your jersey.

Research Project Week 3 Post

My project is on The Silk Road. the Silk Road wasn't just a road as many people think. The Silk Road was a system of intricate trade routes throughout the Middle East. These trade routes were building blocks for the surrounding areas due to the economic factors that the Silk Road provided. The Silk Road is important to history because it was one of the first known major trade routes. Keep in mind that there were no cars or planes to deliver the goods. Most of the travel was done on foot or done by camels, due to the fact they do not need as much waters another animals. The goods were sold or traded for profit and often made business men very wealthy.
Although the Silk Road was very important and overall very good to many people, it did have downsides. One downside of the Silk Road was the productivity and use of the Silk Road was based on he politics of surrounding areas. If areas had certain political unrest that area of the Silk Road was most likely not very productive. This means that there was not always a stable supply of goods or business means.

Reading Response Week 3

The book The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie has been very interesting so far. I have found that the stereotypes throughout the book have been inaccurate but some have been true. I enjoy seeing the view of another teenage boy and it is interesting to see how he thinks. I have found that the illustrations throughout the book so far have made the book. Without these illustrations I feel as if the purpose of this book would not get across and you would not be able to actually see how he feels.
I am really enjoying reading this book. I feel that it gives an insight, whether that insight is true or false to the way high schools and schools around the world are. I feel that this book also looks at problems that we are facing as a community such as racism, prejudice and bullying. I cannot wait to read more of this book.

Student Prompt Trust

A group of People I trust is my friend group. The group of people I trust the most is my friend group because they always have my back. I can trust them because I can tell them something and it will stay between us. I have also known them for a long time and they are very important to me. I like hanging out with them because hey are funny but at the same time they can be serious when they need to be. They mess with each other and sometimes will get mad but in the end it always gets worked out.
No matter what I know they will have my back no matter what happens. We get into arguments but they don't really matter. My friends are very important to me and I m not sure what I would do without them

Research Post

My research is going very well. I like my topic and feel that I can write a thoughtful paper on it. I think using Gale was the right choice because  all the sources are resourceful and trustworthy. I feel like I am able to keep up with the work and I am understanding the instructions. The project has been difficult because it is a lot of work but it is all important. All parts are very important.
I feel that I will do very well on this project because I have the correct work and I feel that the topic I chose is something I can write a thorough response to. I feel like I will have difficulty  in small areas like citations and some grammar errors in my writing.

Free Post

It snowed again in Louisiana. I am not sure how this happened twice in two months. The roads near my house froze over so much I could ice skate on them. After realizing I was tearing my skates up I biked through the Ice and fell a lot. I realized that this was a terrible idea yet, it was hilarious. I decided to play soccer in the snow which resulted in numbness of my feet for two hours but it was worth it.
I like and dislike not having school because when school is cancelled so is soccer but I also like it because I can put in the work on Fortnite and Fifa. Overall I think snow in Louisiana is really fun because it rarely happens and people are not really sure how to react and respond accordingly when it snows.
