Purple Hibiscus
Purple Hibiscus is a book that shows the cultural society and social issues amongst the people. The reason that I believe this is because the book commonly gives small details that show abuse and poverty and how people are commonly treated amongst communities.Purple Hibiscus is a book that shows symbolism and social issues in an intriguing way. Papa who is seemingly perfect to the community has major family issues. He abuses his wife, kids and in some cases kids to be. Many do not realize this but there is nothing to be done because he is the glue in their community.
Purple Hibiscus has shown that many things must be forgotten or things that you would not expect happen very commonly where they live. When Papa beat his wife and future child the children acted like it was just another one of those days and it was normal for beatings to happen. Throughout this book the cultural differences and mindsets amongst the different groups are very different from what you would see anywhere else. I am excited to see how things like poverty and abuse continue to layout through this novel.

Dogs
Dogs are human's best friends. Dogs have been with mankind since the beginning of time. Dogs have always been there for humans and humans have always been there for dogs. The importance of dogs is very overlooked. Dogs relax many people and that is why they are the most common therapy animal. They use a sense of warmth and playfulness to combine for great therapy animals. This is important because many people need dogs for their every day lives. Another important use of dogs are for security purposes. Such as, K9 units or just watching backyards.
Dogs are single handedly the best animals in the world due to their versatility in usage. They can be used in almost any situation to help others. I have two black labs and they may not be K9 units or the most useful watch dogs but they are very underrated when it comes to other things. Overall dogs are very underrated when it comes to worldly things.

Umbrella
In the song "Umbrella" by Rihanna feat. Jay-Z, the artist use an anaphora to get her point across that she will always be there for her fired and they will protect each other like an umbrella which brings me to my next point. Metaphors are used in this song quite a bit. The rain is all the problems in the world that her friend is being faced with. The umbrella that Rihanna refers to is the protection that Rihanna has for her friend. I feel that these metaphors help make the song more personable and understandable. Rihanna consistently uses words that mean lasting or forever throughout her song. She does so to let her friend that no matter how bad the rain (all problems) is that Rihanna will always have her back.
In the song "Umbrella" by Rihanna feat. Jay-Z, the artists uses anaphoras and metaphors to get her point across and to give an example that isn't real but is related to the hardships her friend is facing. I feel that the usage of these two devices were crucial in the song. The metaphor of rain to problems was consistently used in almost every stanza. This emphasizes the rain and umbrella to the rest world problems and her relationship with whomever she is talking to.

shootings
oh so
crazy
oh so
dumb
looking for the
answer
that may never
exist
while everyone is clenching their
fists
yet, they are all being
dismissed
no answer is found.
until the day.
they are
they are
missed
I used end rhyme, enjambment and one caesura in my poem.

Jamar Melton
I felt that Jamar's project was the one that had the greatest affect on me. It was about the difference between Hurricane Harvey and the Great Flood of 2016 vs. Katrina. The difference in support of these two natural disasters was immense. Jamar explained that one way this was so different was because of the Cajun Army. The Cajun Army was a organization that helped other states in the US in need. They did so by having call systems and emergency systems that notified them when someone needed to be helped or rescued. Jamar made this very apparent by showing us the difference in a call from Katrina vs. a call during Harvey or the Flood.
I feel that this presentation impacted me the most was because it hit close to home. During Harvey, many of my family members had to be evacuated and my birth town was hit very hard from the flood. During the massive flood that had hit Baton Rouge many friends and family had been impacted. I can remember watching the families cry as we rip their houses apart and the screams from the mothers when they see what their household now is. Jamar's presentation was empowering because it shows what a community can do when everyone works together.

Free Post EHS Soccer Season
Episcopal soccer has just ended and club soccer has just started. These two styles and the rosters of the team are very different. The Episcopal Knights 2017-2018 program has been one that has changed my life. Before playing high school soccer, I had no idea what dedication meant. My coaches and the players on my team were tremendous in whatever they did. We bonded as a group and were a family. One that was serious when we needed to be serious but also had laughs along the way.
As most freshman have never played high school sports, it is very different but in the same sense makes you much better. By playing for your school instead of a club gives a whole new insight on what it means to represent something or someone. When wearing a Knights jersey you never feel so proud. When playing any sport for Episcopal it isn't just playing for your team. You play for the entire school and everyone who contributes to that school. It is not about the game itself, it is about how you represent what is on the front of your jersey.
