Jamar Melton

I felt that Jamar's project was the one that had the greatest affect on me. It was about the difference between Hurricane Harvey and the Great Flood of 2016 vs. Katrina. The difference in support of these two natural disasters was immense. Jamar explained that one way this was so different was because of the Cajun Army. The Cajun Army was a organization that helped other states in the US in need. They did so by having call systems and emergency systems that notified them when someone needed to be helped or rescued. Jamar made this very apparent by showing us the difference in a call from Katrina vs. a call during Harvey or the Flood.
I feel that this presentation impacted me the most was because it hit close to home. During Harvey, many of my family members had to be evacuated and my birth town was hit very hard from the flood. During the massive flood that had hit Baton Rouge many friends and family had been impacted. I can remember watching the families cry as we rip their houses apart and the screams from the mothers when they see what their household now is. Jamar's presentation was empowering because it shows what a community can do when everyone works together.
